THE KEEL LAYING OF THE 136-METER SAILING RORO CARGO SHIP (NB128) HAS TAKEN PLACE


 

The “Keel Laying” operation of the 136 meter Sailing RoRo Ship, NEOLINER ORIGIN, NB128, was carried out at RMK MARINE Shipyard in Tuzla, on 14th February 2024 with a modest ceremony, marking the second part of the project’s construction phase.


The first phase of the construction, the steel cutting, started 2 months ago, and in less than 2 months, experienced shipbuilding teams of RMK MARINE completed the first block of the NEOLINER ORIGIN for marking the “Keel Laying” of the ship.
Gürkan Türkeş, CEO of RMK MARINE, mentioned in his speech about the proud and motivation to build such an innovative sailing commercial ship capable of reducing harmful gas emissions by over 80% compared to conventional ships of equivalent size by using wind energy as the main propulsion power. Thanks to these innovative technologies, resulting a considerable amount of reduction of harmful gas emissions for the sake of sustainability of our planet.


In his speech at the ceremony, NEOLINE President Jean Zanuttini expressed his confidence in the work planning, order and quality of RMK MARINE during the construction process, as well as in the effective and efficient cooperation with all its stakeholders under the management of RMK MARINE, the main contractor of this special project.  He added that they are proud and happy that the construction project of the ship, which will be a first in the world in its class, is being progressed with concrete steps in accordance with the plans.


Following the speeches, the lifting operation of the first block, whose production was completed, was carried out by NEOLINE Technical Manager Mr. Guilhem Pean, using the RMK MARINE gantry crane via the remote control console.

The 136 m sailing RoRo ship will ever be the first of its class to sail more than %80 of its route by wind power. It has been designed by the Frenchship design and marine engineering company, MAURIC.

The launch of the ship is planned in December 2024, and NEOLINER ORIGIN is expected to be sailing on its route after the delivery, which is scheduled for June 2025, between the ports of Europe and North America continents.
